How one Omaha-area mom turned self-doubt, a pregnancy craving, and a little edible glitter into one of the metro's most unforgettable cookie brands
Some bakeries begin with a business plan.
Others begin with a family recipe passed down through generations.
Glitter Smack Cookie Co. started with something much less conventional.
A pregnancy craving.
And a conversation.
For years, Sierra Baker carried around the same dream many people do. The idea was there. The talent was there. The passion was there.
The confidence wasn't.
"I kept telling myself it wasn't something someone like me could do," she says.
Then one day she reached out to an old high school friend who had just launched a cinnamon roll business. Sierra asked the question most aspiring entrepreneurs ask people who have already taken the leap:
How did you do it?
The answer was surprisingly simple.
"My family and friends kept telling me I should sell them, so I just did it. I don't know everything, but I'm learning along the way."
That sentence hit Sierra like a lightning bolt.
Why couldn't she do the same thing?
Why couldn't she believe in herself the way other people seemed to?
For years, she'd been working against herself instead of with herself.
That conversation changed everything.
Today, that leap of faith has become Glitter Smack Cookie Co., one of the most colorful, distinctive, and personality-filled cottage bakeries in the Omaha area.
And somehow, the cookies are every bit as memorable as the story behind them.
Not Your Average Cookie Company

The first thing people notice about Glitter Smack isn't the cookies.
It's the name.
When Sierra settled on "Glitter Smack," most of her friends and family hated it.
They thought it was weird.
Too unconventional.
Maybe even a little ridiculous.
She loved it.
"It was always meant to be Glitter Smack," she says.
The name grew out of a habit she developed while baking treats for her children. Sierra started dusting cookies and desserts with edible glitter simply because it made them more magical.
Then she started adding glitter to treats for family gatherings.
Then work events.
Then practically everything she baked.
Before long, she became known as the woman who showed up with glitter-covered desserts.
The name stuck.
So did the attitude.
The brand is bold. Bright. A little rebellious. A little whimsical.
And entirely authentic.
"That's definitely a lot of my personality," Sierra says. "Baking has given me an opportunity to truly express myself in a way I never have before."
That personality shows up everywhere, from the fairy logo to the cookie names to the sparkle-coated treats that regularly earn gasps from customers.
She doesn't just want people to see a cookie.
She wants them to experience wonder.
The reaction she's chasing?
"Usually I get an 'ooooh' or an 'aaahhh.'"
Mission accomplished.
The Cookie That Omaha Can't Stop Talking About

Every bakery has a star.
For Glitter Smack, it's the CinnaDamn.
And yes, that's really the name.
The cookie starts with a sugar cookie base loaded with chunks of cinnamon roll filling. It's then finished with browned butter cream cheese frosting.
According to Sierra, the cookie practically named itself.
"It's pretty damn good."
Customers seem to agree.
The CinnaDamn has become her best-seller, earning a devoted following of people who discover it once and then immediately start plotting their next order.
But if Sierra could convince Omaha to try one cookie that's flying under the radar, it wouldn't be the bestseller.
It would be the Golden Sugar.
A Mexican sugar cookie inspired by the polvorones she grew up eating.
"It's a dreamy and peaceful representation of my childhood."
Simple.
Elegant.
Soft.
Crisp.
Almond-forward.
And deeply personal.
Like many of Sierra's recipes, it's connected to something bigger than ingredients.
It's connected to memory.
Six Cookies at a Time
One of the most surprising parts of Sierra's story isn't what she's built.
It's what she's built it with.
Right now, Glitter Smack operates out of her home kitchen.
And her oven can bake just six cookies at a time.
Six.
That means larger orders often require late nights, early mornings, and meticulous planning.
Freshness is non-negotiable.
Most orders are baked the morning of pickup or the night before.
The process is demanding, especially when you're also raising four children, including twin babies.
Yet Sierra never complains about the work.
Because the work represents freedom.
Before Glitter Smack, she was working a traditional job while her children spent long days in daycare.
Today she gets to pursue her passion while raising her family.
"It's not easy juggling parenthood and a cookie business," she says. "But it's worth it."
She's currently saving for a commercial confection oven that would allow her to increase production from six cookies at a time to twenty-four.
For many bakeries, that sounds like a small upgrade.
For Glitter Smack, it represents the next chapter.
The next level.
Proof that big dreams really do start small.
Why These Cookies Taste Different

Spend enough time talking with Sierra and one thing becomes obvious.
She takes cookies very seriously.
Especially texture.
Many bakeries rely on a single base dough recipe and create different flavors from there.
Not Sierra.
Every cookie is designed individually.
Every recipe serves a specific purpose.
Every texture is intentional.
"Texture is everything to me."
That obsession shows up across the menu.
The Black Unicorn combines browned butter, black cocoa, white chocolate chips, and crunchy sprinkles.
The PB & Drizzle delivers rich peanut butter flavor with balance and restraint.
The Frosted PB & Drizzle takes things one step further.
Even her oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, a flavor many bakeries treat as an afterthought, has quietly become one of her personal favorites.
Before any cookie reaches customers, Sierra runs multiple test batches to ensure consistency.
Family and friends happily volunteer as taste testers.
It's a tough job.
Someone has to do it.
The Best Terrible Idea She Ever Had
The most remarkable part of Glitter Smack isn't the glitter.
Or the cookies.
Or even the branding.
It's the timing.
Just as Sierra was preparing to launch the business, she discovered she was pregnant with twins.
For many people, that would have been enough to shelve the dream.
Not forever.
Just until life became easier.
Sierra considered it.
Then she decided not to.
"I knew it was probably a terrible idea."
But her heart wouldn't let it go.
She wanted her children to see what it looks like when someone chases a dream.
She wanted them to watch their mother build something.
She wanted them to know that fear isn't a reason to quit.
Today, when she talks about Glitter Smack, there's no regret.
Only gratitude.
"It's the best terrible idea I ever had."
What's Next for Glitter Smack Cookie Co.?
This summer, Sierra is preparing to roll out a lineup of seasonal flavors that includes blueberry, lemon, banana bread, and birthday cake cookies.
She's also continuing to grow her presence throughout Omaha and surrounding communities through vendor events and local partnerships.
Long-term?
A storefront isn't off the table.
She can already picture it.
The colors.
The sparkle.
The unmistakable Glitter Smack energy brought to life in a physical space.
For now, though, she's exactly where she needs to be.
Building something meaningful one batch at a time.
One cookie at a time.
One customer at a time.
And if you ask Sierra what people are really supporting when they buy from Glitter Smack Cookie Co., the answer isn't complicated.
You're supporting a mother.
An entrepreneur.
A dream.
A baker who believes cookies should create moments people remember.
Because at the end of the day, Glitter Smack isn't really about edible glitter.
It's about joy.
It's about indulgence.
It's about creating a small moment in someone's day that feels a little more magical than it did before.
And in a world full of boring cookies, that might be exactly what Omaha needs.
