National Pizza Day is a celebration of democracy—the universal right to a perfect slice. Whether you fold it, drown it in ranch, or pick off the toppings like a lunatic, pizza belongs to everyone. It’s the great equalizer—the thing that makes bad days better and Super Bowls unforgettable. And here in Omaha, we’re not short on great pizza.
This year, National Pizza Day happens to coincide with Super Bowl LIX, meaning there’s no excuse not to indulge in a pie (or five). Our team at Omaha Food Magazine—a dedicated crew of food lovers and photographers—ventured out to six standout pizza joints across the city, armed with a list of questions to peel back the layers of what makes each one special.
The best pizza in Omaha isn’t just about the toppings—it’s about the places, the characters, and the stories. Every great pizza joint has one.

No rankings. No arguments. Just a celebration of Omaha’s pizza scene—its quirks, its characters, and the flavors worth driving across town for.

Grace Pizza & Shakes Papillion

? 136 N Jefferson St, Papillion, NE | ? 402-281-4334 | ? gracepizzaandshakes.com
Walking into Grace Pizza & Shakes is like stepping into a well-loved storybook. The walls? Built in 1875, wooden ceilings and brick whisper stories of the past. But the menu? All modern magic.
Their signature pie, The Supreme Grace, is a loaded masterpiece—wagyu meatballs, Italian sausage, candied applewood smoked bacon, whipped ricotta, and a homemade ranch swirl that ties it all together. “There are no rules,” they say about how to eat it. Fold it, fork it, inhale it straight to the face—just don’t forget to save room for a shake. Their desserts are as indulgent as their pizzas, stacked high and unapologetically over-the-top.
Pizza and a milkshake? It shouldn’t work, but it does. And I wouldn’t have it any other way. — Shelbi Tallman
And if you’re the kind of person who can never decide on toppings? Take a page out of the playbook of the guy who ordered every single topping on one pizza. Legend.

La Casa Pizzaria

? 4432 Leavenworth St, Omaha, NE 68105 | ? 402-556-6464 | ? lacasapizzaria.net
La Casa Pizzaria isn’t just an Omaha institution—it’s the Omaha institution. Opened in 1953 by Joe and Nellie Patane, this place was serving pies before most people in town even knew what pizza was. Joe went to New York after WWII, saw how pizza was booming, and knew Omaha needed in.
Their signature pie? The Hamburger Romano Cheese Pizza, because this is Nebraska, and beef reigns supreme. Pick up a slice, take a bite, and taste 70 years of history. It’s the kind of pizza you don’t mess with—thin, crispy, deeply flavorful, and made with the kind of sauce that doesn’t apologize for its boldness.
Just because La Casa Pizzaria has been around since 1953 doesn’t mean every Omahan has had the pleasure of trying it. Don’t make that mistake—this National Pizza Day, it’s time to finally experience a true Omaha classic.
There’s history in every bite. This is the pizza your grandparents ate. And it’s still one of the best. — Shelbi Tallman
Also, this pizza joint was on Jeopardy. And part of the movie Downsizing. And their neon sign, “Peppi,” is a designated Omaha landmark. Yeah, La Casa is that kind of place.

Lighthouse Pizza

? 1004 S 74th Plaza, Omaha, NE 68114 | ? 402-932-6660 | ? lhpizza.com
This is pizza with no brakes. No restraint. No dainty little 12-inch artisan flatbreads here. Lighthouse Pizza serves up slices the size of your forearm—9 inches apiece, or go all in on an 18-inch pie. It’s pizza on an unapologetic scale.
Their Mac & Cheese Pizza is the stuff of childhood dreams, while the Spicy Hawaiian brings the heat with jalapeños setting fire to the sweet-and-salty pineapple-ham combo. And because sometimes you don’t want to get out of your car, there’s a drive-thru.
Let that sink in: A drive-thru for enormous pizza slices. America.
Theme Song: All Night Long – Lionel Richie (Because you’re going to need the energy to finish one of these slices.)
Lyle’s Pizzeria

? 5213 Leavenworth St, Omaha, NE | ? 402-763-2125 | ? lylespizzeria.com
Lyle’s is what happens when a chef from La Buvette and a partner with an old Max I. Walker space get together and decide Omaha needs a neighborhood pizza joint with soul. Opened in April 2023, Lyle’s is cozy, intimate, and filled with the scent of sourdough crusts getting the perfect char in their ovens.
Their Pepperoni Pizza is a lesson in simplicity—quality mozzarella, char-and-cup pepperoni—while the Bianco, featuring fontina, fresh mozzarella, goat cheese, and whole garlic confit, is a sleeper hit (pro tip: add honey).
This place doesn’t scream for attention. It just makes damn good pizza. – Shelbi Tallman
Oh, and their namesake? Lyle was a family dog. A small statue of him sits outside, greeting guests and confusing local pups. It’s the little things.

Pitch Pizzeria

? West Omaha: 17808 Burke St, Omaha, NE 68118 | ? 402-289-4096
? Dundee: 5021 Underwood Ave, Omaha, NE 68132 | ? 402-590-2625
? pitchpizzeria.com
Forget everything you think a pizzeria should be. Pitch isn’t playing by the rules. Opened in 2009, this place was built on a simple idea: reinvent the pizzeria with an upscale, cocktail-driven focus. Think wine, bourbon, tequila, and a menu beyond just dough and cheese.
Their king? The Doc Pizza. Fresh fennel sausage, roasted garlic, an aromatic peppornata blend, and fresh basil—it’s the kind of pizza you can smell before it even hits the table. Fold it, cut it, knife-and-fork it, however you like.
Their most ridiculous creation? A pizza with alligator sausage and crispy calamari, almost like a jambalaya on crust. Legendary.
And if you’re looking for something extra? Their liquor store tucked inside the restaurant sells everything from bourbon to cocktail kits.

Vis Major Brewing Co.

? 3501 Center Street, Omaha, NE 68105 | ? 402-800-8846 | ? vismajorbrewing.com
Pizza and beer. A love story as old as time. At Vis Major, they’re brewing some of the best beer in town—and the pizza holds its own. Open since 2017, this husband-and-wife-run joint applies the same creativity and curiosity to their pizza as they do to their craft beer.
Their Goonie Crab Rangoon Pizza is a crowd favorite (yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like). And if you walk in on a Tuesday, you’re in luck—All-Day Happy Hour means beer and single-topping pizza specials.
This place feels like a craft beer nerd’s dream—except with ridiculously good pizza. — Shelbi Tallman
Also, people get engaged here. No, really. One guy popped the question at the bar, then led his fiancée to the back room where all their friends and family were waiting. Pizza makes everything better.
Theme Song: Happy – Pharrell Williams
